Nina Garcia Wants Michelle Obama & Cindy McCain on Runway

September 5, 2008

The nation may be in the midst of a race for the White House, but Project Runway judge Nina Garcia is following the “fashion face-off” between the candidates’ stylish wives.

Having Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama guest judge Bravo’s design competition “would be amazing,” Garcia told PEOPLE at a launch party for The Rachel Zoe Project at New York’s Gramercy Park Hotel. “We did the Olympics, why not the election?”

Garcia described the women’s different styles, saying, “[McCain] is Oscar de la Renta. [She's] all about bold colors and she’s all about diamonds and pearls and blondeness.”

On the other ticket, “[Obama] is Miss Jackie O. — ’50s, early ’60s,” she said.

But the potential first ladies aren’t the only women Garcia is keeping style tabs on. Vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin shows “a lot of promise,” Garcia said, and suggested she wear designs by Carolina Herrera.

“First, we have to lose the glasses — Lasik or contacts,” Garcia said. “But she’s attractive. She seems to be feminine; I saw the high heels and little beaded skirt. She kind of broke up the suit which is a major move for a politician — and she’s curvaceous.” – Susan Yara

I think Sarah Palin is gorgeous just how she is! I think she represents the average, all-american women frome her looks to her life! Palin Power!!!!

I love Cindy McCain’s style. She always looks classy, beautiful and feminine. She is stylish without being to trendy. She looks timeless. Go Cindy!

The three political figures have much more style and grace than Nina Garcia. And I think the glasses look Fab on Palin. Garcia should do something about her oh so orange tan.

Cindy McCain has fabulous style. Classic yet glamorous and sophisticated. She looks stunning everytime I see her. The bright bold colors go perfectly with her pale blonde hair. As first lady I believe she would turn in to a style icon.

I actually like the way the two potential first ladies have presented themselves thus far, they always look appropriate and beautiful, but disappointed in the way Palin has dressed (can you say Sexy Librarian? haha). Vogue estimates that Cindy McCain’s look cost some where between the ranges of the 100 thousand (Dress is Oscar de la Renta, plus the huge diamond earrings, pearl necklaces, ect) the amount of some real estate! While Michelle Obama is more polished but not over the top. Both styles work for each woman, and I’m glad to see that Clinton’s pant suits are gone!

Nina, don’t hate on the glasses. I’ve sold them for 20 years and they can be a very essential element to a persons style. Her glasses are her signature. Much like Elton and Sally. I for one think her frame selections are awesome. For that matter so is she. If you are a woman and don’t vote for her than shame on you.
