Dancing Host Samantha Harris: ‘I Adore Cloris’

Dancing with the Stars host Samantha Harris and actress Susan Lucci say a recent article claiming they and others at the show are sick of Cloris Leachman’s antics is baloney.

“This story could not be further from the truth,” Harris tells PEOPLE. “I adore Cloris Leachman and have had so much fun working with her this season. She even peeks into my dressing room each night, on the way to the set, to say hi. She’s wonderfully entertaining and I love how she keeps us all on our toes!”

On Thursday the Chicago Sun-Times ran a story claiming that Harris and current Dancing contestant Lucci are tired of the Oscar-winning actress’ over-the-top antics on the show.

“It’s a ridiculous rumor,” The All My Children star tells PEOPLE, adding, “I adore Cloris. We are very supportive towards each other. I enjoy her and we have wonderful conversations all the time.” –Monica Rizzo

Hello, has everyone forgotten about the other seniors that have “competed” on DWTS? What about Jerry Springer, Steve Guttenberg, etc? and each time people say the same thing. I do agree it’s harder for them to compete-but we cannot discrimiate against anyone.

Cloris may be funny but she is no dancer,her fans are the ones keeping her on the show, and she may be fun to watch, but the show isn’t about comedy, it’s about good dancing and she hasn’t got it. A 82 yr old is not meant to stand up to the hard work that these stars have to go through on this show.It was nice to see her for the first couple of weeks, but I think it is time that she went and they get down to more serious dancing now that they are down to the last few dancers. We love you Cloris but it’s time you retired. Good Luck to the remaining dancers. I hope Brook and Derek make it to the finals, they have been great all season so far.

I agree with EVERYONE THAT posts comments on all the sites. Cloris needs to go. She is not funny, thinks she is cute but is not, and is getting under everyones skin. I think that the vote for the worst website must have something to do with it. That is the only thing I can think of because she is far from a dancer and far from entertaining. I have never watched the show in the past, never saw a reason to, but when I found out that Cloris was going to be on I haven’t missed a show yet.
I love her humor and admire her determination.
For all of you that have decided that an 82 year old woman shoud not be on the show because of the hard work, I feel sorry for you. This just means that when you are 82 you will be resting comfortabley in a nursing home because you feel 82.

If I’m not mistaken the show is not only about dancing it’s about entertainment which nobody but Cloris provides. And the show is not about talent, if it were about talent then they would have not gotten ametures to do the show. This show is to provide entertainment with dancing and yes she may not be the best but it’s not about skill it’s about fans and she has fans. This happens on every show where fans vote, if you don’t like it then don’t watch because I will be voting for Cloris unless it’s down to her and Brooke and Codey because I do believe Codey and Brooke belong in the finals. Seriously people, give Cloris a break. The woman is a great ENTERTAINER. She has buckled down lately and really tried hard at becoming a better dancer. She has an excellent dance partner, and the two of them together are hysterical. I don’t believe that she should win, by any stretch of the imagination. But give her some credit for being 80 years old and getting out there. It’s not her fault that she gets voted through each week. And honestly…who are Cloris Leachman’s “fans”? It’s not like she’s Justin Timberlake or Paris Hilton.

All of you Cloris haters need to shut the hell up. Seriously, get over it. Its a show, and she makes it entertaining. Just because its a show about dancing, doesn’t mean that someone like her can’t add a little spice to it and make it fun. She brightens up the show. Why can’t all of you see that? It sucks to think that the viewers have become so serious. Lighten up. The winners who win, don’t win anyway but a stupid trophy anyway and its not about “talent” its about having fun and that is what the main premise of Dancing With the Stars is. If you can’t see that or you can’t find the humor in someone who unlike most 82 year olds is not sitting in a nursing home waiting to die, but instead is dancing, having a good time, not taking herself too seriously and showing to everyone that even an 82 year old can keep up with 20 and 30 year old dancers…well then a round of applause to her, because you know what, the dancers who were voted off, the judges gave low scores to and obviously, the viewers enjoyed watching someone like cloris dance instead of someone who clearly couldn’t and NEEDED to leave, not her.

O.K. Enough is enough!! Yes it is great that Cloris is 80+ and can still move around some, but come on, it is so time for her to go home and let’s have some real dancing. Without Cloris the show this season would be too boring. No one except the professionals are really good dancers. Certainly Susan Lucci should have been booted off by now she has no sense of rhythm and is stiffer than Cloris is at 82! I think most of the negative comments are from young, silly viewers who can’t stand the sight of a senior citizen although they will be old, too, one day and not be looking as great as Cloris does!

Cloris is a bit over the top at times, but we should all be so lucky to have her vitality at 82 and give her a lot of credit for doing the show. I found Marissa Marissa Jaret Winokur of last season’s competition very annoying, so it’s different strokes for different folks. I agree though that others who have been eliminated — i.e. Toni Braxton, Kim Kardashian and Rocco — are better dancers than Cloris. But what most annoys me is that band and the fact that they play the wrong music for the dancers. They should go before anyone. Bet if the fans had the vote, they would have been gone after Season 1.

So far there is not one dancer who has gone who would not have gone eventually. Cloris should be voted off but she hasn’t bumped anyone out who would have made it to the end. The other night I had my nieces that were 5 & 6 watching DWTS. The 6 yr old said, “Ohhhh she’s beautiful. She has flowers and sparkles”. My mom and I had to laugh because although we like her as an actress/comedian we don’t care for her dancing. We all decided to give her our scores. Mind you, they just think her outfits pretty. My mom gave her a 1, I gave a 5, my niece Bella gave her an 8 and Courtney gave her a 10. Then she turned to her grandma and in a grouchy tone, said, “You didn’t give her a nice number”! Bottom line, she’s an entertainer to all ages, but not a dancer. I still think she needs to go home, but it took the sting off the elimination night when I thought of my girls.

I have always loved Cloris in movies and shows but this is, I thought, a show about dancing. She is very agile for her age, but she is now being so obnoxious so as to draw attention to herself so she can stay on. I feel DWTS is allowing this behavior for viewing purposes, but to most fans of the show, it’s disappointing. We have seen several excellent dancers booted off and yet Cloris remains; I’m sure due to the viewer voting, but the three judges are also taking it easier on her than they do the others. If this is no longer DANCING With the Stars, then the three judges need to lighten up on all the real celebrities who are giving forth such effort, like they do with Cloris. If it’s no longer DANCING With the Stars, then ABC needs to regroup and change their graphics and the title of the show. This is not a personal attack against senior citizens, we are just disappointed that the show has lost it’s direction.

I enjoy DWTS occasionally, but honestly and unfortunately, it’s not about the dancing, it’s about popularity. The credibility of the show is lacking and after a while becomes a bit ridiculous. There is no way that Susan Lucci should still be there and Toni Braxton voted off. If it were left to the professional judges the way it should be after week (2) the results would be dramatically different. I enjoy Cloris Leachman’s acting and was hoping that a more respectable elderly contestant would be on the show. Originally I thought she was picked to show how older people could enjoy life and dance and compete honorably. I had no idea she would be the silly comic relief she has turned out to be. I agree with you all. Cloris should have been a memory to the show by now. She doesn’t dance, Corky (bless him) pushes, pulls, spins, tugs and moves her just enough to give the illusion she is dancing. More often than not their routines should be rated PG-13, no other couples have to resort to breast graps, etc. to stay on the show. It is great that a woman of her age has tried to learn to dance. But it’s past time for her to go. Her continued presence on the show is hurting the show’s credibility and making it a look like a farce.

The thing about Cloris that is so unique is that she is 82 and she can put her leg upon a ballet bar. Every week I see her it reminds me that life doesn’t have to stop at 60 or 70. It’s true she can’t dance as well as others, but she is very entertaining and I think she brings to the show an element that we should all strive for; being full of life at 82. And one more thing, yes, others have gone home before Cloris that can dance better than her, but everyone has to go sooner or later except for the winning couple so it really doesn’t make any difference who goes when. The most excellent dancing couple will be there at the end. America will get it right.

When talented dancers start leaving and she stays, it’s just such a shame. She does try to get in front of the camera and I think the show has a hard time controlling her. I haven’t been watching since about the third episode because of Cloris Leachman. Her vulgar, over the top personality takes away from everything. When she is voted off, I may pick back up on it.

I too am tired of Cloris on Dancing With the Stars. My question is why was she ever able to be included with her advanced age. Shouldn’t there be an age requirement, both minimum and maximum? I am a senior citizen and know that age limits our physical ablilities and no way can a person of 82 compete equally with those many years their junior. This is not fair competition. The only reason Cloris is still competing is certainly not for her dancing talent.

When watching “Dancing with the Stars”, I’ve seen a couple times where Samantha Harris has been rude to Cloris Leachman. It was very disrespectful. Ms. Harris needs to lighten up and go with the flow. After all Ms. Leachman is hilarious and adds some great entertainment to the show.

It is SO obvious Samantha Harris doesn’t like Cloris — in fact, she looks like she doesn’t like her job at all. But watch her around Cloris especially. She looks sour and annoyed.

Cloris is gutsy, and I should be so great at her age. But I agree that the time has come to move on. She’s run this schtick as long as it’s gonna go.

Susan Lucci has been terrible all along. She’s doing exactly what others have been criticized for in past years — moving like she’s made of glass, not moving her hips, being stiff and detached. I can’t believe how the judges seem wowed by her.

I am more annoyed by Susan Lucci than anyone else on this seasons DWTS. She looks like she wears a childs size 8 and will break at any moment. Okay everyone, someone else already said it but I am going to repeat it – “Dancing with the Stars” is all about ENTERTAINMENT and RATINGS. Cloris is not the best dancer of course, but she is amusing to many, and viewers obviously tune in to watch the show because she is still on. I am one of them. Her fans admire her spunk and physical ability at the age of 82. I am a health care provider for elderly people and there are a lot of people younger than Cloris who can’t even get out of bed. So, hurray for Cloris! But don’t worry, she will end up being voted off soon, because people will keep the truly talented couples on the show for the finale. And if you don’t like the lesser-talented amateurs (like Cloris) who always are invited to be on the show because of their entertainment value, stick to real dance competitions like they have on PBS. Or watch “So You Think You Can Dance” when that comes on in the spring to see some real talent.

I commend Cloris on her efforts and I think that it’s great that she has been able to maintain such a demanding workout schedule, but she is not a very good dancer. She is funny, entertaining, and she makes people laugh. If this was a competition in comedy she would do great. It is unfortunate that better dancers have been sent home just because her fans are voting for comedy rather than dance ability. I personally don’t like the choreography either. I think that Corky could do a better job of choreographing dances that would showcase Cloris’ strengths. So far he has only done that once (I believe it was the waltz). The poor girl seems to be getting dizzy all the time and then there are several pauses in the routines so she can get her bearings. Cloris is a wonderful entertainer and she seems very sweet. I hope that when I’m her age I’ll still be able to swing around the dance floor too.

Cloris’ antics this season have been over the top and totally uncalled for. After the first week, it was obvious she was a scene stealer and obnoxiously rude to her costars. She must lead a rather lonely life to need to hog the limelight so much.

I think once the show gets past the second or third week, the judges’ scores should weigh more heavily in the process so that those who aren’t making it talent wise are weeded out sooner.

Her age is not the issue. My dislike of Cloris would be the same even if she were 50 yrs younger. Yes, for her age, she is doing well, but no one gives special credit to the youngest because of their age. Enough already. I have been ballroom dancing for a couple of years now and I can tell you that DWTS doesn’t really live up to genuine ballroom dancing competitions. So when people comment about how Cloris should not be there, I disagree. I do love DWTS….the glitz, the excitement and the costumes and ALL the celebrities with the courage to put themselves out there every week……ballroom is not easy…and yes….I really enjoy Cloris….she accomplishes what I think DTWS sets out to do….that is entertain. I have mixed emotions when it comes to Cloris. First of all, she is amazing for an 82 year old woman. I must say however, that it is very rude when she rudely interrupts the dancers when Samantha Harris is interviewing them after they perform. She is entertaining, but I find she is distracting and maybe a little confused. I have always found her acting to be top quality and funny, but this is a dance competition. Again though the age – 82 – we should give her a break, but if she is able to go out and dance and learn the routine (sort of!), you would think she would be able to tell when it is appropriate to speak and when it is not. Well obviously she is a fan favorite. She is still on the show which means people keep voting for her. If she wasn’t entertaining and funny she would not be on there. So don’t complain just don’t vote for her.

I think it’s more important to view seniors as people who have lots of life left, not just as people who are marginalized. Cloris Leachman has done this in spades. I agree that as a dancer she would have been eliminated long ago. But this is not about dancing. This show has become a forum for changing perceptions. In that context, she is amazing.

Cloris is not funny. She is ANNOYING. She should act her AGE. He looks horrible, scary, and she is very stiff like Kardashian. She does not dance. People are voting for her antic. For me she is at all FUNNY. She is annoying and scary. I know she should be commented for having a strong stomach and be in the DWTS. Even when she was one of the cast in “Mary Tyler Moore” show. she was not even funny at that time. I hate her. The final straw is: SHE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO DANCE. She just have a strong stomach to do what she is doing. But I bet you down deep in her scary skin she knows DWTS is not the place for her. Please, Cloris, act your age. I am 69 years old and I won’t dignify myself to be humilated. You are SO SHAMELESS. Your scary skin is too thick to think otherwise. Do the decent act: withdraw from the DWTS, for crying out loud. And to top it all, you let Corky group you. how shameless you are! The producer of the show should put their foot down and recommend her to be eliminated. Are you telling me that Brooke and Derek will be eliminated in place of Cloris in the Finals? The whole DWTS sponsor is so silly and off balls if they do that. If that happens and they ask who would sign a petition to drop DWTS in the face of the earth, I will be number one to sign the petition. Sponsor, please do something before it is too late. Get Rid of Cloris, the scary horrible grandmother.

You all need to remember past shows…The better dancers have been voted off before a more popular dancer was…Obviously Cloris has a huge fan base…She may not be the best dancer, but she does try…She has been an entertainer for a very long time – it’s in her blood…like it or not it is about the stars fan base – hers is BIG…

Wow! Everyone is rather harsh in their comments about Cloris Leachman. DWTS is about dancing and entertainment. Why in the world would DWTS even have Cloris in this season’s line up if they didn’t want entertainment? Considering her age, I think she’s incredible. I challenge all the criticizers to match her! Get with it people, this is television and they want ratings – high ratings!

I think Cloris is amazing. Also way too vulgar and RUDE (don’t interrupt!) and not as talented. Who are her fan base anyway, I certainly thought “show some skin” Kim would last due to her fans (thank goodness NOT). In the end, it is entertainment, and the best dancer almost always wins. Don’t fret.
Wish they’d attempt to keep the dancing a little ClEANER tho, would rather my kids didn’t copy the “simulated sex” sort of moves.

I agree Cloris needs to retire her dancing shoes. Also Susan , well she doesnt even move shes to stiff. I hope Dereck and Brooke make it to the finals. I think she has done good from the start.

I have stopped watching Dancing With The Stars. Cloris Leechman has ruined the show for the people who are really trying. She even ruined the chance for the young children to talk after they performed.
