Endometriosis cannot be diagnosed without surgery, despite what some other people post here. I was diagnosed at 25 years of age after undergoing a laparotomy (large incision - major surgery)for a large ovarian cyst. At that time, my doctor discovered stage IV endometriosis. I see my doctor every two months and receive transvaginal ultrasounds each appointment(to check on my cysts). There is no way for the ultrasounds to show the scar tissue caused by the endometriosis. Doctors can make ASSUMPTIONS about endometriosis based on symptoms, but they can't officially DIAGNOSE the disease until surgery is performed. I've had this confirmed for me numerous times by doctors who specialize in endometriosis. So, I'm confused by how Julianne could announce her diagnose prior to surgery...and how Lacey could be diagnosed based on having similar symptoms to Julianne. For those of us who have suffered for years and undergone major surgery to get a diagnosis, it's hard to believe that both girls were "diagnosed" in the manner they claim.

For those of us who suffer from this disease, it is beyond frustrating to know that the only information being publicized about the disease...is misinformation. I wish someone in the medical community would step up and set the record straight.

If Julianne and Lacey really do have endometriosis,I wish them well, as they are in for a lifetime of discomfort and pain.

Actually, you are wrong, surgery IS required to get a true diagnosis of Endometriosis. When a doctor does and Ultrasound ect...it can show that Endo is likely, but can not be a deffinate. I was diagnosed with this disease when I was 13....20 some years ago. I have held numerous charity events to raise more funding for research and have spoke with the top two doctors in this field (in the world). Some one needs to get their facts straight before posting. Also, about the ladies just wanting attention:

There is hardly any research on this disease without a true known cause. Maybe these women are coming forward in order to shed a little light on a very painful condition that doctors still say is in our heads. I thank them for coming forward. Maybe now that they did, something might start happening for the women who suffer with this condition.

Endometriosis is a horrible disease that doesn't get nearly enought attention as it should. I am 19 years old and I was just recently diagnosed with this disease. I can't understand why everyone is so quick to put these women down for coming out and saying they have this disease, I highly doubt anyone would be happy they have this condition and do it for attention. We, as women who suffer from endometriosis, should be happy that at least a little more publicity is being brought on this disease because it's not talked about whatsoever. So stop arguing about what is the right way to diagnose it and what's not the right way. The bottom line is that this is a horrible disease that should not be ignored.

I, for one, am happy that these ladies are getting publicity for our condition. At least it has opened a dialogue concerning the painful and debilitating disease we are faced with every single day.
