Saying, “My family is my priority,” Lauri Waring Peterson quit The Real Housewives of Orange County on Tuesday’s episode, after disclosing that her son Josh — who’d struggled with an addiction to heroin — had relapsed, been arrested and was eventually sentenced to eight months in jail.
Quick question: Will you miss Lauri, George and their kids, including horseback-riding Sophia and Ashley, whose skin care line is in the works? What will happen with them?
Her departure from the show makes way for a new Housewife Lynne Curtin, who promised in promos for next week’s show, “I’m obsessed with being young.” Indeed, her bio on the Bravotv.com, says she is a former gymnast, an avid surfer, runner, horseback rider and kick-boxer. It also says she prefers to be friends (rather than a disciplinarian) to her “outspoken” teen daughters Raquel, 18, and Alexa, 16. “I want to be the cool mom,” she says. “I don’t want to say no.”
We’ll see how Vicki deals with the new new girl.
Speaking of … On a couples weekend to Napa with her husband Donn, Tamra and Simon, Vicki put her awkward marriage on full display by “throwing Donn under the bus” with snide remarks about her husband’s inadequacies from the limo to the yacht.
After “getting lit” at a wine tasting, crowing with a rooster and stomping on grapes, the couples retired to their rooms to get ready for an elegant dinner. While Vicki and Donn waited (and argued, no doubt), Tamra busted out her lingerie for Simon and the couple, who were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary, tried out the furry handcuffs, massage oil and other gifts she bought to spice things up. “No one wants the same ol’ peanut butter and jelly sandwich,” Tamra explained.
At dinner, the foursome were confused by the gourmet menu. Vicki declared she would prefer a piece of steak and a salad and that she “can’t do fattened liver of duck,” referring to foie gras. But the real cringes came when Vicki broke down in tears because her husband wouldn’t hug her at the dinner table. “I’ve got an empty tank and I don’t know if Donn can fill it up,” she said.
Gretchen and her fiancĂ© Jeff were off to the Indy 500, where she quickly found out she’s engaged to a racing VIP. Gretchen road in the pace car, met former winners and watched the event from inside the track. Later, on a carriage ride through downtown Indianapolis, the couple had a heartwarming chat about how she’s happy to take care of Jeff, whose cancer keeps him feeling week and tired, and how lucky they were to have each other.
Jeana, on the other hand, felt lucky to have a decorator and a personal trainer. After getting new bedding to the tune of $8,000, Jeana tells her daughter Kara (over French fries) why she stayed with her lousy ex-husband Matt for so long: “perfect body, great in bed.” Determined to get a perfect body herself, Jeana meets with the personal trainer in her garage to learn how to use her exercise equipment. Though he questions her commitment — she tells him she doesn’t exercise because she’ll only ruin it later with a pizza — Jeana explains, “It’s hard to build a life for yourself when you’re still trying to unravel your old life.”
Tell us: Did Lauri make the right decision? Will Vicki and Donn last? What do you think of the new Housewife, Lynne?
