While Whitney continued to figure out where she stood with Jay, she felt on more solid footing at work when Diane von Furstenberg complimented her styling work. Though Olivia told her how “amazing” the praise was, the jealous look she gave her spoke volumes.
Later, at a red carpet event at DVF, Whitney met Chris, a coworker who boldly asked her to lunch in front of Olivia and their boss Alixe. A giggling Whitney accepted the offer but after their date, she quickly realized they had no chemistry.
In a post-lunch chat with Olivia, Whitney debated whether she should tell Jay about going out with Chris. “I just didn’t know if it was even worth saying anything because at this point it’s my life and my time and he doesn’t own me or my time,” she said.
Finally deciding to tell Jay over dinner at Los Dados, he asked whether she was trying to make him jealous. “You can do whatever you want. It’s your life,” he said somewhat unconvincingly.
Dealing with completely opposite issues, Erin — who’s always been in long-distance relationships — lamented how Duncan was considering moving to New York City (“I just think we have things so good I don’t want to put pressure on it,” she told him). But while hanging in Whitney’s bedroom, she agreed that Jay needs to “man up” and make a decision about their relationship.
And during a discussion about Whitney’s lunch date with his roommate Adam, it was clear that Jay had a wake-up call. “Other guys are hitting on her — I could put that on lockdown,” he said, weighing his options about exclusively dating Whitney. “I do care about her and I don’t want to lose her.”
To celebrate his revelation, Jay surprised Whitney with a bottle of wine when he arrived at her palatial apartment for their date. After asking her to become his girlfriend (watch a clip) — and each admitting that this will only be their third serious relationship — Jay announced sweetly, “Dating game’s over for you, young lady.” And with the New York City skyscape behind them, they toasted with a kiss. – Serena Kappes
