Jillian hopped to the Big Island of Hawaii with her final two and Bachelorette fans finally got the moment they’ve been waiting for when she picked Ed and he proposed with a $60,000 Neil Lane diamond ring. But first, she had to get rid of Kiptyn — and Reid!
Meet the Parents: Ed was the first to interact with the potential in-laws. Cousin Tori looked at Ed like he had cancer when he explained his leave of absence. Mom grilled him with 66 questions but said he gave “really good answers.” He asked dad for permission to propose and his dad said if Ed was the last man standing, he’d be “doing somersaults.” Then, Ed was forced into a coconut bra to hula.
Kiptyn was next and like a slick politician he had all the right answers. Jillian’s mom thought he “was more like Jillian and a free spirit.” But when dad asked if he loved her, he hesitated. “I’m getting there a lot quicker than I thought I would but I would never propose without being sure.” Mom and Tori seemed to lean toward Kip although Jillian got giggly when dad told her about his conversation with Ed. She didn’t sound as sure when telling Tori about Ed’s fantasy-suite failure.
Under Pressure: Ed got the first final date, another chopper ride, and the symbolism of lava flows and erupting volcanoes could not have been more obvious. After a return of the infamous green shorts and some serious groping in a rain forest, he promised he’d never leave her again and invited her to his place. And in case you weren’t sure if they sealed the deal, after the light in their room went out, the cameras cut away to a shot of an exploding volcano.
Surf’s Up: Kip and Jillian spent their last day on a speedboat, picnicking on a private beach and awkwardly embraced while paddling around on a board. Back at his place, he urged her to move to San Diego to meet his “amazing friends” and live the life he’s “lucky enough to live.” He told her all the things she’d been waiting to hear as foreplay and seduced her to the bedroom with the promise of “you and me … forever.”
Three’s A Crowd: Jillian was scared her heart wouldn’t hold when she had to send home someone she loved. Kip picked out a ring to “make her the happiest woman alive” and still had time to jog while Ed stood around in manties. Kip arrived first, and after saying some sweet nothings, she told him he wasn’t the one. “This hurts a lot,” he said. “I have never had my heart broken before today.”
Reid Returns: After dumping Kip, Reid came back and explained that he regretted not telling her that he loved her and that he didn’t see her with either of the other two. She looked genuinely stunned, cried and seemed to second guess her choice when Reid whipped out a ring and proposed. She retreated indoors to rethink her options. Host Chris Harrison helped her sort out her feelings and she had dumped Reid a second time. “My heart is with Ed,” she explained.
Better Off Ed: The one for Jillian returned and declared his allegiance. “You may not know how much you impacted me, changed me as a man and helped me re-prioritize my life,” he said. “You make me smile when I look in your eyes.” Before continuing, he wanted to hear her decision. After Jillian assured him of her choice, he got on one knee, flashed the bling and asked for her hand. She replied, “Absolutely!” The rest was a blur of hugs, tongues, loving proclamations, syrupy lyrics and a montage of their times together as he gave her a piggy back ride into the sunset. –Carrie Bell
