The Hills Finale: Kristin & Justin Bobby Give It a Go

December 2, 2009

All good things must come to an end, including Kristin Cavallari’s first season of The Hills. While some loose ends were tied up and KC packed her Malibu beach house, the gang delivered a few cliffhangers to ponder until they return. –Carrie Bell

Summer Loving: Despite finding it “hard not to like him” after having a blast with Justin Bobby in Vegas, Kristin ran from commitment, saying she didn’t want to get hurt. In the soul-searching sit-downs with Stacie, the lady doth protest too much and even Stacie thought she was making a mistake by passing up the guy who rode to Vegas to be with her. Justin Bobby appeared sincere when he made his case and offered her a place to stay. “There’s a lot of people in this world and to find somebody that is compatible with you, for you and by you … I have that feeling for you,” he said. “I’m here. I haven’t flaked anymore. I went to Vegas. You need to figure it out.” But she stood firm on not wanting a serious boyfriend and he bolted. Read the rest of this entry »

Tara Costa’s Biggest Loser Blog: Marathon Time!

December 2, 2009

On last night’s episode of The Biggest Loser, Amanda, Liz, Danny and Rudy all went home for 60 days. That is amazing! They had an entire two months before returning to the Ranch for the final weigh-in and almost another two months until the live season finale Dec. 8 (8 p.m. EST) on NBC.

The time that they were given at home is precious in making their change last. And while at home until the finale, they have weekly calls with other BL contestants, medical staff and nutritionist to help them stay on track. For 12 weeks these four people have been consumed by cameras then all the sudden, the cameras are gone and it’s just you. SNEAK PEEK: Audrina & Justin’s Final Conversation?

December 1, 2009

Is this finally the end? Audrina Patridge and Justin Bobby are meeting up once again on the season finale of The Hills.

“I feel like this is going to be the last conversation we’re ever going to have,” she tells her one-time beau while watching the waves crash in Malibu.

Justin tells her she’s being immature by making such a dramatic statement and reminds her that she’s the one that told him to “get out of my life.”

“You didn’t get out of my life,” she says.

“I definitely tried,” he says.

Ouch! Audrina calls Justin Bobby “selfish” and “self-centered” and then says, “You go around telling people that we were never together — nothing.”

His reply: “We weren’t, Audrina.”

The Hills airs tonight (10 p.m. EST) on MTV, followed by the finale of The City.

Tell us: Is Audrina finally done with Justin Bobby? What did she ever see in him? Will he go back to Kristin?

The Amazing Race: The Globetrotters Have ‘No Regrets’

December 1, 2009

It was the decision heard around the world. On the second-to-last leg of The Amazing Race, Nathaniel ‘Big Easy’ Lofton, 28, exited a roadblock he couldn’t figure out and told his partner Herb ‘Flight Time’ Lang, 32, that he wanted to take the four-hour non-completion penalty. It sealed the fate of the Harlem Globetrotters, arguably the fan-favorites, but the Louisiana natives talked to PEOPLE about not letting the choice taint their take on the trip and their rivalry with brothers Sam and Dan. –Carrie Bell

How long did you attempt the Kafka task before taking the penalty? And did you regret making that decision?
Big Easy: I was there for three-and-a-half hours before I decided. I couldn’t think clearly anymore. I don’t regret the decision. I had the answer on the paper so I thought I had used it already and got it wrong. Whatever was on the paper, I wasn’t going to try again so I would have been there even longer than the penalty if I was trying to come up with an answer.

Did you think it was even remotely possible that you might make the final three after the penalty?

SNEAK PEEK: Whitney’s Big Break on The City

November 30, 2009

What’s the most important department store in the world?

It’s Bergdorf Goodman, according to Whitney Port’s boss Kelly Cutrone, who shares with her mentee the “great news” that the store wants to have a sales meeting and see some of the young fashion designer’s line.

The bad news, however, is that Kelly doesn’t think Whitney should bring along her coworker and pal Roxy for the meeting.

“I think it would be a very bad idea,” she tells Whitney in an exclusive clip of this week’s episode of The City. “This is business … There’s a chance that they might buy your pieces … It’s make-it-or-break-it time.”

The season finale of The City airs Tuesday (10:30 p.m. EST) on MTV.

The Amazing Race: Czech Points

November 30, 2009

The final four teams zoomed around Prague on Sunday for the penultimate leg of The Amazing Race, which had plenty of bickering, (more) villainy by the brothers, an impressive comeback and the fall of fan-favorites. A few more travel tips were established, including the most important Race rule (besides “Don’t lose your passport”). –Carrie Bell

Get Hooked on Mnemonics: Leading the pack, All-Americans Meghan and Cheyne arrived first at the Ekotechnicke Museum, where teams searched a room of ringing phones for five with a voice on the other end that revealed a letter. Meghan repeated the letters and assigned each one an animal whose name began with the same letter. It took her only two tries to unscramble Kafka’s first name, Franz, for the bureaucrats holding the next clue. Other teams didn’t do as well, but Brian (a.k.a. Mr. America) wisely wrote down all possible permutations and handed in the one that made the most sense. This allowed him to surpass a highly frustrated Big Easy even after the teetotaler got tipsy at the absinthe-making speed bump. Read the rest of this entry »

How ‘Loser’ Allen Smith Plans to Stay on Track

November 28, 2009

After falling below the yellow line, Allen and Liz were both on the Biggest Loser chopping block as their fates came down to a single vote. In the end, Amanda voted for Allen and the 44-year-old firefighter from Columbus, Indiana, was sent home. Allen Smith spoke to the press about temptation, portion control, and his plans for staying on track during Thanksgiving, the biggest food holiday of the year! –- Nina Tyler

Were you surprised with Amanda’s decision?
I was a little surprised because, you know, Amanda is somewhat of a game player. I was thinking that she would want to look at going for the win, so I was just a little surprised.

You mentioned to Bob that you were strategically not winning all of the challenges, do you regret doing that now since you didn’t make it to the finale?
No, I do not regret that at all. That was just something, you know, that I saw that towards the end that I was going to have to try to get that focus of the target off of my back and maybe get it on somebody else. Read the rest of this entry »

Donny Osmond’s Thanksgiving: Turkey & a Trophy

November 26, 2009

The dining table at the Osmond family Thanksgiving feast will have all the fixings — turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and a mirrored disco ball trophy.

“It will be a nice little centerpiece,” Donny Osmond, 51, joked Wednesday, just 24 hours after he and partner Kym Johnson won Season Nine of Dancing with the Stars.

Though it had been a busy few days for the oldest contestant to win the mirrored trophy, it was business as usual Wednesday in Las Vegas at his show, Donny and Marie.

Ribbing his sister, Marie Osmond, also a former Dancing contestant, the former teen idol brought out the trophy during the opening number of their show at the Flamingo Hotel and asked the audience, “Do I even let her touch this?” The sold out crowd, as expected, cheered loudly and clapped.

The trophy stood on a piano during a large portion of the show before Marie, who finished third in her season, had it sent backstage.

“Could my brother be more obnoxious,” she joked. “I told him that he better win, but let’s see him do it in 6-inch heels. But I am extremely proud of him. He worked so hard for it.”

With all that work, Osmond said he lost 20 lbs during his time on the show. But as good as winning feels, it hurts just as bad, Osmond said. “Everything hurts. There are muscles I didn’t know I had that hurt.”

In the end, though, it was all about his partner. “You got to know the dynamics backstage amongst all the professionals to appreciate it, but everyone was rooting for (Johnson). It was her year.” – Mark Gray

Tara’s Biggest Loser Blog: Obesity Stats Make You Think!

November 25, 2009

I have heard of Suze Orman, but never really understood who she was or what she was about. After doing a little research, I learned that she is quite impressive and a very determined women. I wasn’t exactly sure how her being a guest was going to beneficial to the contestants, but hope her visit left them with a new sense of appreciation for their transformed bodies!

When contestants were taking the quiz, did it astonish everyone else to learn how much money is spent on healthcare related to obesity? $147 Billion Dollars -– that’s NUTS! Or that an obese person earns $7,000 less money than a non-obese person? Or the kicker: 1 in 3 children are obese! How does this happen? I am severely bothered by this and can’t get it off my mind. Let me ask all of you: What can be done to help these children and change this statistic?

Overall I was baffled by the quiz, but am happy that light was shed on the topic. The quiz got me thinking about how my expenses have changed since losing weight and if I have even called my insurance company to tell them I am no longer obese. Pre-Biggest Loser I spent so much money on transportation (cabs to/from my office) because I would get winded so easily and wouldn’t want to go into work all sweaty and gross. At a minimum I would spend at least $20 on snacks throughout the day without even blinking an eye. This might include two lattes, one soda, one bag of chips and something sweet.

Now, I normally bring my snacks with me, and if I get caught in a jam, I get fruit or a healthy snack bar (savings of $6) and I still get one coffee (savings of $7). On average, I am spending much less than I used to spend on food and am buying more natural & organic products.  If you did what I did, let me know your cost savings!

Now, onto the contestants. It is the last week that all of them will be on campus. Read the rest of this entry »
