After calling Gretchen a “hooker” and telling everyone at Lynne’s cuff party that she “prays on old men” in a continuation of last week’s brawl, Tamra finally got fed up when Gretchen told her “to shut the f— up.” She and Vicki stormed out of the St. Regis, telling each other they don’t have to be friends with a “filthy nasty whore.” Later, we learn that “things aren’t great” for the Barneys, with Simon banking on tequila to get their family through the tough economic times. And since they owe more on their home than it’s worth, Tamra will be forced to sell in a buyers’ market.
“Whatever it takes, I’m willing to do,” said Jeana, who has also been hit hard by the economic downturn and has already sold watches, cars and artwork to make ends meet. She’s also went shopping for a bargain at H&M with her recessionista daughter Kara, who loves making her own money at her job as a waitress.
While everyone around her is struggling, Vicki biggest problems were how to handle all the luggage she brought to Rome, the “itty-bitty” hotel she booked for a trip with her daughter and mother, and which wine to order when she was up against a language barrier with an Italian waiter.
Lynne was also bonding with her daughter — at the plastic surgeon’s office! “There’s a lot of competition in Orange County,” Lynne said as her reason to go in for a facelift consultation. Her oldest daughter Raquel wanted a nose job, even though, according to her mother, she already looks like a Playboy bunny. But when they break the news to her younger daughter Alexa, she burst into tears at a restaurant, claiming she didn’t want her family to change. “Now I just feel like they’re getting so materialistic about every little thing,” she said. But Lynne suspected, “Alexa was more concerned that I was spending money on this and not on her.” Indeed, Alexa wondered, “What if for some reason I never lived until my eighteenth birthday? What if I don’t get those things?”
Meet Alexis! Tamra and Simon went to dinner with the new Housewife and her husband Jim. Over cocktails, it became apparent the new couple does not share the same love troubles as Tamra and Simon. And over dinner, it became apparent that Simon and Tamra’s love troubles are getting worse.
After holding a garage sale, Gretchen decided to throw a tanning party for her family and friends to get over the showdown at the St. Regis. Lynne showed up with 16-year-old daughter Alexa, who immediately asked for a beer. “It’s a relaxation thing,” she told her mom, who said no. Gretchen’s boyfriend Slade stripped down, wearing only a strategically placed sock, for his tanning session and Lynne soon followed his lead, taking off her top to get sprayed. Gretchen, the perfect hostess, used her hands to make sure no one saw her guest’s breasts. “Lynn and I, we got to second base in the tent,” Gretchen said.
