Gossip Girl’s Matthew Settle & Kelly Rutherford Make a ‘Good-Looking’ Couple — On TV

March 19, 2010

Matthew Settle has no qualms admitting that his Gossip Girl character Rufus Humphrey and Kelly Rutherford’s Lily van der Woodsen make the picture perfect couple on television.

“Yeah we do. We’re good-looking,” he tells PEOPLE at a Pampers with Dry Max launch event in New York. “I’m kidding. Kelly’s beautiful — and I just had my toupee redone, so I should look OK.”

Jokes aside, are the Gossip Girl costars feeling pressure to spark an off camera romance?

“I don’t know. I guess. I haven’t heard anything from the fans that we should date, but I don’t know,” Rutherford tells PEOPLE.

The two have been leaning on each other since Settle’s separation from his wife and throughout Rutherford’s ongoing divorce.”He’s been really supportive,” she says. “He’s a great friend and I really appreciate that.”

Adds Settle: “We’re good friends. Kelly and I have a lot in common because we are supporting each other at this time in our lives.” Read the rest of this entry »

Project Runway: The PEOPLE StyleWatch Pick!

March 19, 2010

Molly Sims may know how to rock a bikini — and Heidi Klum has the lock on chic maternity style. But do they know what you want to wear? PeopleStyleWatch.com editor Melissa Liebling-Goldberg knows what you want — and she’s picking a winning look from each episode of Project Runway:

And the StyleWatch winner is … Emilio (and Seth Aaron)!

New York, New York, for those of us who live here, we can truly attest that this is a wonderful town. And how fun to see the contestants roaming the streets of my beloved city. (Note to Anthony: the ducks hanging in the windows never fail to be fascinating, no matter how many times you see them.) But did no one ever watch Sex and the City? Because, if you had, you would know that Charlotte York would never wear Amy’s sherbet housedress over leggings or Jonathan’s cut-out, body-bisecting dress. Where were the crisp lines? The preppy tastefulness? And as for Mila, I skip being a broken record on the subject of her black-and-white obsession to merely say this: No one in the East Village would wear that outfit, unless they were trying to get dressed up for the Upper East Side. Where’s the cool hipster I know so well? Think Chloe Sevigny, Agyness Deyn, the Olsens. And Jay, cargo pants with hip jowls are just bad news, no matter where you get inspired. Teresa’s Take on New York Housewives’ Fashions — and All That Nudity

March 19, 2010

Teresa Giudice knows how to keep it classy — just don’t tell her to pay attention, puh-lease. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star is flipping the tables on the ladies of The Real Housewives of New York by sounding off on season 3 of their show. In this post, she takes on the fashions — and nudity — that was prevalent during Thursday’s episode:

The Real Housewives of New York City was all about fashion this week: Fashion shows, fabulous clothes, designer parties and even a Lindsay Lohan sighting. It had everything we love to see: Beautiful women wearing beautiful outfits in their beautiful apartments — and the equally entertaining opposite: nasty insults, freaky people, and nudity!

We got to see Kelly give Jill a tour of her gorgeous apartment. Her bedroom was beautiful and her purse collection, which she displays like art, was amazing. A giant plastic horse in her living room was different, but it totally fits Kelly’s personality. Read the rest of this entry »

Ellen DeGeneres’s Gift to Pamela Anderson? Pasties!

March 18, 2010

The pasties are piling up for Pamela Anderson these days.

The dancer-in-training was presented with a pair from Ellen DeGeneres — “the second pair of pasties I got today,” Anderson said — during an interview scheduled to air Thursday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I get a lot of nipple notes,” Anderson said.

DeGeneres said the gift was intended to prevent a “wardrobe malfunction” when Anderson dons the inevitable skimpy costume during her stint on Dancing With the Stars, which begins again March 22. (Anderson has been paired with professional partner Damian Whitewood.) DeGeneres also gave the pair their own footwear: Blue fuzzy slippers for Whitewood and sky-high, blinged-out stilettos with clear heels for Anderson.

The final touch in Anderson’s gift bag? A racy red negligee: “I could not believe I found what she’s going to be wearing,” DeGeneres joked.

Anderson was in a funny mood herself. When DeGeneres asked if she was still with her previous boyfriend electrician Jamie Padgett, Anderson replied: “Fuses blow.” She continued that “the only man in [her] life right now” is Whitewood. Not that she’d have time to start up a new romance during the show’s rigorous practice schedule, anyway.

“I’ve never danced in my life,” Anderson said. “I’ve never taken a lesson always wanted to and the timing was good. I rehearse when the kids are at school and I’m going to see what happens.” — Blane Bachelor

Brooke Burke Thinks Hosting DWTS Will Be Easier Than Dancing on It

March 18, 2010

Last time Brooke Burke appeared on Dancing with the Stars, she was working (and dancing) hard. This go around, things will be a bit more relaxed, she says.

“I’m excited to spend some time with the dancers [and] to get back to the ballroom,” the season 7 champ -– and newly minted DWTS co-host -– tells PEOPLE at the premiere of Barbie in a Mermaid Tale. “And this time it will actually be a lot easier, which is a hard [thing] to say with live television.”

Who’s her pick to win? Well, Burke can’t say, though she does admire Kate Gosselin, saying that anyone who can handle eight kids, can “handle anything in the world.”

As for rumors that Bachelor Jake Pavelka is getting too close to partner Chelsie Hightower, Burke just laughs and emphasizes the hard work that goes into preparing for the show. “It’s all about the dance,” she says.

Burke will join co-host Tom Bergeron and the rest of the Dancing with the Stars cast when season 10 premieres March 22 on ABC. –Bethany Powers

American Idol

Lacey Brown Gets Booted from American Idol

March 18, 2010

Lacey Brown, who’d made it into the final 12 on her second trip to Hollywood, was the first to go on this season of American Idol. To take advantage of the potential redemption of what’s called Judges’ Save, she reprised “The Story,” her best performance overall.

And, just like the first time, it was very sweet with a whimsical wilt. But you could tell from Simon’s expression that he was not receptive to keeping her around. She was doomed.

This was no shock. She’d been very appealing, in the manner of a flower that pops up unexpectedly in a city sidewalk, but she was very undependable as a live singer. Simon has said she seemed to approach each song as if she were an actress — maybe she’d be better in a musical comedy.

Paige Miles joined Lacey in the bottom two. Even with her voice still a little raw from laryngitis, she remains a powerful singer — as good as Siobhan Magnus, if you ask me, and never as shrill — but she hasn’t generated much excitement, and the judges are never squarely in her corner. She’s an unknown, which isn’t good this far in.

The night’s only surprise was that Tim Urban not only survived being in the final three, but escaped the bottom two or worse. He probably deserved the boot the most. The judges seem to start shaking their heads as soon as he shows up, and Tuesday’s performance of “Under My Thumb” was cheerfully, cluelessly awful. But cuteness can keep a singer going on American Idol — yes, even when he reduces a Rolling Stones classic to the aural equivalent of a soft stick of butter. Good luck, Tim!

Some random comments from the judges:

Ellen said Siobhan had the potential of an Adam Lambert.

Randy said Lacey and Paige probably deserved to be in the bottom two.

Kara, who at one point earlier in the competition had said Katie Stevens could win, wouldn’t reiterate that opinion when Ryan asked her about it. She dodged and said instead that Katie should try R&B-pop; Simon said, no, she should do country; Randy said, no, she should do pop-rock; and Ellen said, no, she should do mariachi. Katie’s head probably started to spin like the girl in The Exorcist.

The show began with Simon revisting the odd unpleasantness of Tuesday night, when Ryan challenged him for not giving constructive criticism. “Do you want to get the eyeballing out of the way?” asked Simon. He told Ryan to stop crossing the line, literally and otherwise. Oooh! It’s hard to believe any of it’s real, except in a pro-wrestling sort of way. But both men played their parts well.

An hour, frankly, is too long a chunk of programming to organize around chucking just one singer, and so the show was as padded as your grandmother’s sofa. David Cook sang “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” Kesha sang “Blah Blah Blah,” and the finalists designed custom graphics for the Ford Fiesta. Why not have them dye eggs, too? — Tom Gliatto

Sawyer’s Big Twist Revealed on Lost

March 17, 2010

MIA from the Lost canvas for several weeks, Sawyer re-emerged with a vengeance Tuesday in an episode full of clever cons. Add that to the list of “pros” for season six.

The Big Twist: Sideways Sawyer initially appeared to be the same ol’ con man with the same ol’ proclivity for pretty marks. But — surprise! — he’s actually an L.A. cop whose partner is none other than Miles Straume, his deputy in ‘70s-era Dharmaville. LaFleur+Straum = Buddy Cop Spin-off?

While Det. James Ford wasn’t hurting for lusty hook-ups, it seems, deep down, he’s really just a lonely guy who hasn’t yet found that someone special to crack open a beer and watch Little House on the Prairie with. (Seriously, what kind of wacky world is this Sideways place where Josh Holloway can’t find love?) But like his island counterpart, this Sawyer holds con man Anthony Cooper responsible for his parents’ deaths and, while he may now be on the other side of the law, he still plans to kill when he finally tracks him down. The Biggest Loser

Tara’s Biggest Loser Blog: Daris Sheds Some Pounds — and Skin!

March 17, 2010

You’ve asked, I’m answering!

Elizabeth wanted to know about workouts that are quick — yet powerful. When we had little time to work out, Jill would start us off incline-walking or jogging. I suggest putting the treadmill to where you think you should be, then increasing the incline by 1.5 or 2. Then, bump up your MPH by 2.0. That is, basically, how we would warm up.  She would then pull off a contestant one by one for a fast five to 10 minutes to get your heart rate pumping. The other contestants would stay on cardio equipment until they were called. When you were on the floor with Jill you would do whatever she was in the mood for — boxing, lunges, walking planks, ropes, jump squats. The last 15 minutes she would end with sprints on the treadmill, StairMaster or Elliptical.

Lyndsey wants to know how contestants afford being on The Biggest Loser. Well, it is not easy! A lot of the contestants give up everything to come on this show. I left a job where I just got promoted, a brand new apartment (7 months were still on the lease), my family, pets and friends. When you want something so badly, you will do anything to achieve it. If I didn’t go on the show, I would have been “going under the knife.” I had to tap into my savings because the show does not pay your salary. Everyone figures out a way to make it happen. Siobhan Stands Out on Rolling Stones Night

March 17, 2010

The first night out for the top 12 was dedicated to the Rolling Stones — you know, they
sing that Susan Boyle song, “Wild Horses.” I love that song!

In fact, Katie Stevens chose to do the Susan Boyle song, and managed to come up with a
new, power-ballad interpretation in a belting voice. The judges agreed this
was her least problematic — which is to say, most successful — performance. “This
is the first time I think you connected with a song,” said Simon. “Well done.”

The wildest moment of the night was Siobhan Magnus, made over in a sleek
dress and curled hair, singing an intensely melodramatic cover of “Paint It Black.”
The Judging Four were thrilled, especially when it ended with another of her
roof-rattling shrieks. “Like Snooki’s pouf,” Ellen said, Siobhan had risen above everyone
else. Kara thought it was the best turn of the night, and so did Simon: “The standout.”
He added, however, that a lot of people would hate it.

That includes me. She looked like a French pop star struck by lightning.

Crystal Bowersox, the one singer you might have expected to have a knockout
with this sort of blues-rock, didn’t quite connect with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” She
just sort of strummed along, comfortably and even respectfully melodic, but the song
didn’t build to anything. “This is the first time where I think you were beaten by somebody,”
said Simon, “and that was Siobhan. … You’ve got to come on that stage, and you’ve got to kill.”

The disaster of the night? That would be Tim Urban. He sang a reggae “Under My Thumb,” perhaps
trying to sound like early Police. The sexual aggression of the original was gone, and that left
nothing. “I felt like I was at a resort and drinking a pina colada,” said Ellen. Read the rest of this entry »

Derek Hough’s First DWTS Injury: Hit in Face by Nicole Scherzinger

March 16, 2010

Talk about the wrong moves. In what looks like the first Dancing With the Stars casualty of the season, Derek Hough got hit in the face by his new partner, Nicole Scherzinger, during a rehearsal.

Of course, that’s not what he told his former partner, Brooke Burke, with whom he won Season Seven and who’s returned to co-host the show with Tom Bergeron.
