90210 Recap: Annie Flirts in Frenemy Territory

October 29, 2008

Naomi (Annalynne McCord) is having a hell of a month. She even said so herself. Her parents are getting a divorce, she broke up with her boyfriend, her best friend is a coke addict AND she has detention for the rest of the semester. But all is not bad for the drama queen who just so happens to be the front-runner for Homecoming Queen. And it seems she already made a detention buddy. And he is H-O-T! Of course, he speaks Spanish and she speaks it right back (her parents had a lot of foresight hiring that a Honduran nanny). But the mysterious hottie is out of his league. Maybe.

Jason Priestley: 90210 Reunion with Jennie or Shannen Would Be ‘Fun’

October 10, 2008

Now that Jason Priestley will return to direct an episode of 90210, he’s looking forward to getting to know the new kids on the block–and reconnecting with some of the original Peach Pit gang.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Priestley told Ryan Seacrest during a call-in Friday to the talk show host’s KIIS-FM radio show. “It’s going to be a lot of fun to go over there and work with all those guys.”

Priestley went on to say: “I just hope that Jennie’s in the episode that I do, or that Shannen’s there, That’d be fun for me.”

He should know—Garth, who happens to be his neighbor in L.A., tells him she’s “having a really good time over there.”

Priestley, who directed 18 episodes of the original series, will get behind the cameras in January.

While plans don’t include him coming back to reprise the role of heartthrob Brandon Walsh, Priestley says returning to direct the spin-off is a no-brainer: “It kind of fits like a glove, really.”

90210 Recap: Drug Raids & Electronic Babies!

October 8, 2008

OMG! The final cliffhanger scene of 90210 was intense. But there’s plenty of drama that led up to it.

The kids of 90210 were not the only ones filled with angst. Principal Harry Wilson (Rob Estes) and Tracy — Naomi’s mother — talked about the son they gave up for adoption 22 years ago. After a brief and talk with his wife Debbie (Lori Loughlin), Harry agreed to send a letter to the agency. But Tracy already hired a private investigator. Inside the principal’s office, Tracy explained that she has been thinking about their long-lost son for years. Harry agreed and when they hugged it out, Tracy went in for a kiss. It could have been the end of the Wilsons, but Harry — being the good guy that he is — went straight to his wife and told her about it. Again, Debbie was unbelievably understanding.

Meanwhile, love started brewing (again) for Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Ethan (Dustin Milligan). Paired up in health class, they were given an electronic baby, which has a computer chip that signals abuse if the baby isn’t held properly, fed or changed. (What happened to good ol’ fashioned egg?) The couple and their baby started family life at the Peach Pit. Ethan’s ex Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) ran into them while on her way to visit Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes). Awkward. But Ethan told Annie that he’s tired of breaking up and getting back together with Naomi and is now looking for someone to be his always and forever. Hmm, wonder who that could be. (more…)

Jason Priestley & Shannen Doherty Returning to 90210

October 8, 2008

First Brenda Walsh made her much-anticipated return to 90210, now it looks like her TV sib Brandon will be returning to the old zip code as well.

According to EW.com, Jason Priestley, Beverly Hills, 90210’s original heartthrob, will get behind the cameras and direct an episode of the new CW series. Sources tell the magazine that he will helm the 18th episode to air this spring.

EW also reports that Priestley’s onscreen sister and fellow 90210 alum, Shannen Doherty is making a deal to return to the series for two episodes later this season. “She’s coming back,” says a source. “The deal isn’t officially done, but it’s happening.” Meanwhile the show’s executive producer, Gabe Sachs, would only reveal that Doherty is “in talks.”

Could Priestley direct any of the episodes that will feature Doherty? Executive producer Sachs says: “I think it would be a kick for Jason to work with any of his (former 90210 costars.) But we don’t know whether that will happen yet.” – David Chiu

90210 Recap: Brenda Makes Her Move

October 1, 2008

It was another typical day at West Beverly High on Tuesday’s episode of 90210. There were drugs, devious plotting and a mention of Dylan — and all before the opening credits!

English teacher Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold) was spurned again by Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) when Dylan called moments after Ryan asked Kelly for a date. He told her he was willing to wait for her, but Kelly told him not to. In a subtle dig, Ryan asked Kelly why Dylan called Brenda (Shannen Doherty) instead of her. Good question, Ryan.

It was the night of the annual Pacific Coast Fashion Show, and where there’s fashion, there’s drama. After spending an evening with her father and his mistress, Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) was determined to get her parents back together. She just had to get them in the same room and they would realize how much they love each other. After countless texts to her dad, he finally showed up but yelled at Naomi after discovering her scheme. Just when the night couldn’t get any worse, Naomi and Ethan (Dustin Milligan) broke up while sitting in his car.

Ryan and Brenda chaperoned the show. But this is Beverly Hills, so they carried drinks in their hands. At the bar, Brenda told Ryan that he dodged an “epic bullet” by not getting involved with Kelly. At the end of the night, Ryan offered Brenda a ride to wherever she was going. It looked like Kelly was right when she accused Brenda of returning to her old ways. (more…)

90210 Recap: The Curtain Comes Down on Annie

September 24, 2008

It was a real pressure cooker at West Bev High as it got closer to opening night of the school’s musical, Spring Awakening. Annie (Shenae Grimes), who practiced with the chorus, was also understudy to lead actress Adrianna (Jessica Lowndes), who is so good that she has performed in real commercials and stuff. But leave it to Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) to convince Adrianna to take the school play just as seriously as her Hollywood auditions.

As opening night approached, Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) was continuing with her own drama at home. Her mother finally got a clue and decided to leave her husband, who was carrying on a two-year affair with a woman who moved into their beach house. Naomi was convinced her parents were going to get back together, especially since they slept together before dinner. But when her father couldn’t decide between his marriage and his mistress, Naomi’s mom made it for him. She told Naomi she needed to respect herself and more importantly, she needed Naomi to respect her. Thank you, writers for bringing afterschool specials back.

Ryan Eggold on Kissing 90210 Costar Jennie Garth: ‘Isn’t That Scary?’

September 23, 2008

Ryan Eggold’s character on 90210 may seem too cool for school, but the actor is still learning how to keep his cool when it comes to kissing costar Jennie Garth.

“Isn’t that scary?” Eggold told reporters Sunday at the Emmys. “She’s married too, so I feel like I’m breaking another line.”

Eggold plays English teacher Ryan Matthews, a new love interest for Garth’s character Kelly Taylor on the show.

But Eggold isn’t about to cross any lines–not when Garth’s husband, actor Peter Facinelli, has made his feelings clear. “He hasn’t been on set, but he has been to functions, and when I met him he just squeezed my hand very tightly,” Eggold said. “Fair enough, Peter Facinelli, you are king. It’s cool.”

90210 Gets Picked Up for Full Season

September 23, 2008

It looks like Kelly Taylor is sticking around for a while.

After the success of 90210’s first three weeks on the air, the CW network has given a green light to nine more episodes of the remake, making it the first new show of fall to be picked up for an entire season.

Dawn Ostroff, president of entertainment for the network, told Variety the show is “another step forward in building a cohesive schedule that defines this network as a destination for young women with shows that get our audience talking — and watching.”

The show had the highest rated series premiere of the network. The audience cooled in the second episode but went back up last week when Shannen Doherty revealed the father of Kelly’s son. (Hint to Luke Perry: You have nine more chances to return as Dylan before the fans really do go crazy!)

Tell us: Are you excited for nine more nights of 90210?

Jennie Garth on the Big 90210 Reveal and More

September 17, 2008

It was finally revealed on last night’s 90210 that bad boy Dylan McKay is the father of Kelly Taylor’s 4-year-old son. Jennie Garth, who plays Kelly, talked to PEOPLE.com about the big baby daddy reveal, the loyal fans and possible future cameos from the old-school cast. –Elaine Aradillas

What did you think when they told you Dylan was going to be the father?
It was very confusing for me because initially the idea of having a son was my idea. I thought it would bring a great amount of depth to my character. Then the question came up, ‘Well, who’s the father?’ And I really hadn’t thought it through that far. So, I was like, Oh, I guess need one of those. It’s gone back and forth: Who and what and when and why? I think they settled on Dylan because Kelly and Dylan had such a passionate relationship in the past. Their relationship was so heated. It was kind of undeniable.

Since you started the new 90210, who did the fans want the father to be? (more…)

90210 Recap: Kelly’s Baby Daddy Is Revealed

September 17, 2008

It’s amazing — almost unbelievable — when the suits get it right. It was nearing the end of the last night’s 90210 when our favorite reformed bad girls, Kelly (Jennie Garth) and Brenda (Shannen Doherty), stood in the high school parking lot talking about boys. Seriously, is it 2008? Oh, yes it is. Instead of worrying about night clubs and trendy purses, these ladies were revealing the paternity of Kelly’s 4-year-old son. It’s Dylan McKay!

Now we know our favorite bad boy with a heart of gold is traveling the world and doing good for all mankind. Really?! Is it possible Dylan turned his life around and started caring about others? Brenda told Kelly to get her story straight before she starts messing around with the English teacher (Ryan Eggold).
