POLL: Do You Like Phantom Denny’s Return to Grey’s?

November 21, 2008

On last night’s Grey’s Anatomy, Izzie continued communing with the dead. And had the best sex ever with him, too. Sure, everyone loved Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Denny Duquette when he was alive and ticking, but are you glad he’s back and reunited with Izzie as a dead guy? Tell us:

Grey’s Recap: Izzie & Lexie Play with Death

November 21, 2008

Izzie slept with a dead guy. Alex mixed a poop cocktail for a hypochondriac. A sleepwalker punched Callie in the face. Sadie almost died when Lexie and the interns practiced an appendectomy on her. And Meredith and Yang questioned their previously rock-solid alliance, which looks like it will come to fruition on the next episode of Grey’s Anatomy. It’s all in a night’s work at Seattle Grace. – Carrie Bell

Izzie & Denny Do the Deed
Izzie is still seeing dead people — well, a dead person — and she reasoned that it must be residual grief and sense memories. Phantom Denny suggested they do something they never did in life and suddenly it was wham, bam, thank you dead man. While the rest of the group headed to work to try and get on a surgery, Izzie claimed she was sick and stayed home with her sexy dead bedfellow. Maybe it was a dream? “That one moment between waking and sleeping [where] anything can be real,” Izzie told herself. When she woke up, Denny was gone and she flipped out. He walked back in the doorway and he said sorry. “Dead people don’t apologize. I killed you. You left me all alone. Why did you come back?” she said. “I have a life and a job and a boyfriend. And now you’re back and I’m in this room all day probably talking to myself.” She told him that she had to go to work and he promised that he’d still be there when she got back. (more…)

Private Practice Recap: Addison’s Past Resurfaces

November 20, 2008

Addison’s hunky new boyfriend Kevin said it. As the two start making out in Addison’s kitchen (insert thigh grasping here), he told Addison he loved her. Addison said nothing. All she could do was look shocked. That was only the beginning.

The following morning when Daniel and his pregnant wife Laura stopped by Ocean Wellness to see Addison, they appeared to be the perfect loving couple. Addison discovered an abnormality in Laura’s ultrasound and her unborn child was eventually diagnosed with DiGeorge syndrome, a genetic disorder that can cause heart defects and is associated with cardiac, hormonal and facial abnormalities. Loving husband Daniel was so concerned that he returned for a second time that same day, only this time with his other wife Amy.

Turns out Daniel has a lot of love to give and both Laura and Amy are the lucky, unsuspecting recipients of that overwhelmingly abundant emotion. A livid Addison wanted to tell both women the truth, but Pete wouldn’t have it. “Don’t do it,” he kept repeating, otherwise he threatened to report Addison to the ADA. There’s no denying that pesky doctor/patient confidentially thing, but can you blame Addison for wanting to unmask a cheater and a liar?

Grey’s Anatomy Recap: Callie Copes, Izzie Has a Vision

November 14, 2008

While the staff of Seattle Grace — and especially a jilted Callie — dealt with the fallout of Hahn’s resignation, Denny’s reincarnation haunted Izzie while reappearance of Mer’s wild college friend stunned Der and Yang on this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Death at the Door
Yang (Sandra Oh) delivered hot coffee and news of Hahn’s departure to Deredith in their bedroom, saying, “The wicked witch is dead.” When Der (Patrick Dempsey) remarked that it was too bad because she “was really talented,” he got the stay-out-of-it look and kicked himself out of bed to see who was at the door. A hot blond with an accent (Melissa George) looking for Mer (Ellen Pompeo) ran upstairs, flung herself on the bed, hugged and giggled with Mer, who she referred to by the nickname Death, and Yang soon found herself exiled as well. Sadie apparently backpacked around Europe with Mer before med school and Yang was jealous. “She’s never even mentioned this woman. How good of a friend could she be?” Der answered sarcastically, “Good enough to kick us both out of bed. Welcome to my world.” On the way to work, Sadie explained that she had postponed her residency to work in the morgue — “all of the fun cutting, none of the rules ” — but became “bored and started craving blood that was flowing,” so she signed up for Grace’s intern program. Melissa George Hasn’t ‘Stopped Laughing’ Since Joining Grey’s Anatomy

November 13, 2008

There will be more social shake-ups at Seattle Grace on Grey’s Anatomy.

Australian actress Melissa George guest stars starting with Thursday’s episode as Sadie, Meredith’s friend from the past. “I show up at her doorstep,” George tells PEOPLE. “[Sadie] gets a job at Seattle Grace due to her father, which is yet to be explored. She’s taking a leadership role at the intern society, which is hysterically funny. I haven’t stopped laughing for six weeks.”

Apart from inciting jealousy in Meredith’s current best friend Cristina Yang, Sadie’s character, who is bisexual, will be full of surprises–including possible romances, says George, 32. “I don’t know whether it’s male or female. It could be either; it could be both. We’re all dying to find out.”

George, whose other TV credits include Alias and HBO’s In Treatment, adds that her appearance on the show is not related to Brooke Smith’s departure. “I wasn’t brought on to replace anybody. What happened with Brooke was done weeks before I started.”

Kevin McKidd Joins the Cast of Grey’s Anatomy

November 11, 2008

The revolving door to Seattle Grace Hospital’s ER sent Brooke Smith on her way last week, but this week the Grey’s Anatomy cast has happier news to announce: Kevin McKidd is joining the show as a series regular, ABC reveals to PEOPLE exclusively.

The Scottish actor, 35, who starred in Made of Honor with Patrick Dempsey earlier this year, is thrilled to have the new gig after his starring role on NBC’s Journeyman came to an end after 13 episodes this year. “It’s a great show, and I’m lucky to be on it,” he tells PEOPLE. His character, Dr. Owen Hunt, is a veteran from the war in Iraq and a love interest for Dr. Cristina Yang.

McKidd, who lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Jane, and children Joseph, 8, and Iona, 6, says he is happy to be working with Dempsey again, though their previous screen pairing was mere coincidence. “I got a knock on my door [from Patrick],” he says of his first day on set. “I said, ‘did you have anything to do with this?’ He said, ‘no, they don’t tell us anything.” –Lisa Ingrassia

Grey’s Anatomy Recap: The End of Erica Hahn

November 7, 2008

Halloween may have been last week, but last night the ghost of Denny Duquette reared his comely head in the halls of Seattle Grace and it was like Wiregate all over again. When the smoke cleared, Izzie was unstable, Hahn irrevocably pissed and the fate of the hospital, the chief and Bailey up in the air.

Hahn Solo: By show time, most people had probably heard that this episode was to be Erica Hahn’s last shift in the ER as the actress who plays her, Brooke Smith, had been let go from the cast. Some claimed the lesbian storyline was making the network nervous, while others blamed fan dislike/lack of chemistry with Callie. Whatever the reason for the sudden departure, we can all probably agree that this episode failed to tie up everything with a neat little bow and was less than satisfying conclusion when just last week Callie matured, came clean about her McSteamy side sex and vowed to see where the relationship was going.

Private Practice Recap: Naomi Learns to Let Go

November 6, 2008

It’s Jena’s day! Wait. Who’s Jena? That’s what Addison wanted to know when the entire Oceanside Wellness gang left her in the dark after making a big hoopla about Jena. Turns out Jena is a 17-year-old patient whose dying wish was to have a baby. And since the facility had made the decision to help Jena long before Addison’s arrival, Naomi made it clear she needed to stay out of it. But Addison had strong feelings against it citing that both Jena and her husband Nick, also 17, were too young to be having a baby, especially if the baby was going be left without a mother. Addison helped Nick realize that a baby was not what he wanted, which only pissed off Naomi even more. She accused Addison of sabotaging the treatment and questioned whether Addison was going to be so controlling now that she was in charge. Looks like Naomi is still stinging from her loss. If that wasn’t enough, as newly appointed leader Addison had to figure out a way to get $487,000 in order to keep the practice afloat.

Patrick Dempsey Says It’s ‘Too Bad’ Brooke Smith Was Fired

November 5, 2008

Fans were shocked by Grey’s Anatomy’s sudden decision to fire Brooke Smith (who plays Dr. Erica Hahn). Turns out, costar Patrick Dempsey was just as caught off-guard.

“ABC actually sends me over what I should [say] …,” he tells Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show Wednesday.

So what’s the official spin?

“ABC’s response … is that [I] should say: ‘We’ve had a great time working with her and that the conclusion of her [character] has been orgasmic’ — I’m sorry, I’m dyslexic! — ‘organic’ ending to the story line.’ “

Some have argued that Smith was axed because of her character’s developing relationship with Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez).

Grey’s Anatomy’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, previously released a
statement insisting that “Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian.”

“Thursday night is her last show, which is too bad she has been great character,” McDreamy continues. “I don’t know what happened with that story line. They decided not to continue it for some reason.” – Kate Stroup
