Lost Finale Ends with More Burning Questions

May 30, 2008

Lost — with its endless plot twists, secret elevators, exploding freighters, and moving islands — had its fourth-season finale last night. We learned enough about the castaways to thoroughly make our heads spin like Linda Blair possessed by the exorcist. But we’ll have to wait til Feb. 2009, when Lost returns, to find out the answers to some of last night’s big bombshells and burning questions. The highlights: –- Nicholas White

• What would the movable island look like? Lost’s special effects team went into overdrive to suck the entire island into the sea, prompted by Ben (Michael Emerson), operating an apparent time-travel mechanism. Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Locke (Terry O’Quinn) and others disappeared with the island. What happened to them? What role will time travel (in addition to flashbacks and flash-forwards) play in season five?

Lost Finale, Part I: The Survivors Leave the Island

May 16, 2008

Jack, Hurley, and others (the Oceanic Six) got their first glimpse of post-island family life on Thursday’s Lost, part one of a dramatic — and revealing — two-part, three-hour season finale. The small survivor crew (which also included Sun, Sayid, Kate and Aaron) reunites tearfully with their families at a Honolulu airbase. Jack (Matthew Fox) tells the Six before landing that they will talk to the media–within limits. (He makes up a false story.) Other big revelations include Sayid (Naveen Andrews) meeting his old girlfriend Nadia and Jack learning that he is the deceased Claire’s (Emilie DeRavin) half-brother.

Looking forward to May 29’s part two of the season 4 finale, more answers loom for how the Oceanic Six will be rescued from the island. –Nicholas White

Tell us: What is your theory for how Lost will end this season? Are the revelations in season four satisfying or have they raised even more burning questions?

Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy and Lost Return With New Episodes!

April 25, 2008

After NBC debuted their post-writers’ strike comedy lineup last Thursday, it was ABC’s turn to bring out all new episodes of their top shows–Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy and Lost.

The highlights of the night:

Ugly Betty
• Echoing Sixteen Candles, Betty’s birthday is overlooked by everyone, including her accountant boyfriend Henry.
• Renee uses Chocalitinis to ply evil Wilhelmina’s assistant Marc (Michael Urie) for information, while he steals her psychiatric drugs in return.

Grey’s Anatomy
• The residents–Mer, Izzie, Cristina and Alex– battle it out for bragging rights in a fierce surgical contest.
• While Mer still pines for Der and Der is taking it slow with nurse Rose, nurse Rose blurts out to Lexie that she loves McDreamy–er, that was fast!

Lost
• A mysterious phone call saying “14-J” sends Locke and Sawyer scurrying for cover, as war breaks out in the way of killer gunmen.
• The Smoke Monster is back and it’s angry! Seemingly ordered by Ben to avenge the death of his daughter (who got offed by the gunmen), the tunnel of black-and-gray cinders plows down all the bad guys while Ben pays his final respects to his murdered daughter. –Nicholas White

Tell us: Which show had the better return episode? What do you want to see from Lost, Ugly Betty and Grey’s for the rest of the TV season?

Last Night’s Lost: The OMG Moment

February 8, 2008

(Spoiler Alert!) New flashbacks, new discoveries, new suspicions — Wednesday night’s Lost hit us with gasp after gasp, and it was the opener that that hit the hardest. Searchers’ discovery of Oceanic 815 at the bottom of the ocean was one of the most shocking moments of the entire series, throwing everything we’ve believed so far on its head. How can the cockpit be on both the island and underwater? And who was the pilot holding the throttle? The other big questions:

• Who are the “rescuers”? (The flashbacks were fascinating!) And why did they have gas masks with them?
• Why do they want Ben?
• What was that Dharma Initiative-like symbol that Charlotte found on her dig?
• Who’s Ben’s inside man on the newcomers’ boat?
• How can John Locke walk around with a gunshot wound?
• And who is the creepy mystery man who seemingly orchestrated the entire mission? He’s the same man who went to visit future Hugo in the psych ward!

Tell us: What moment had you saying, “Ohmigod!”

What’s Your Lost Nickname?

February 5, 2008

On Lost, James “Sawyer” Ford (Josh Holloway) is both the bad boy and the Southern charmer of the island. Sure, he’s a con man who hoards supplies, food and guns, but he’s also a bit of a flirt and someone you’d like to have on your side. One of his most endearing habits is the way he gives nicknames to everyone he encounters.

Click here to find out what nickname he’d give you if you washed ashore.

Tell us: What nickname did Sawyer come up with for you?

Lost (Spoiler Alert!): Never Say Never, Dude

February 1, 2008

It’s a new season, but with the same old questions … almost. Yep, after last night’s debut we’re still asking: Who can Lost’s survivors trust? Who or what is “Jacob”? And what the heck is this crazy, possibly supernatural island anyway? But the most urgent question now is who are the Oceanic Six? Last season the big reveal was a fast-forward in time — to see that Kate and Jack were off the island and presumably resuming their lives. And in this year’s opener, we find Hugo, too, back in civilization and starring in an L.A. car chase on TV. But once the police stop him, he yells out, “Don’t you know who I am? I’m one of the Oceanic Six!” Which means we have another mystery to solve (aside from the ghosts, strange visitors and questionable rescuers) — do only six people live to tell the tale of Flight 815? And who are the other three? And will we ever really know what happened? As Hugo told Jack at the end of the episode, “Never say never, dude.”

So tell us, who do you think the Oceanic Six are?
