First Look: Lindsay Lohan on Ugly Betty

May 7, 2008

Is she on Team Betty? Lindsay Lohan reported to the set of Ugly Betty and in the first photos is pictured filming a scene for the show’s finale (scheduled to air May 22), the first of six episodes in which she’ll appear. According to a show source, the scene is a flashback to Betty’s (America Ferrera) high school days.

Lohan is also expected to appear on five episodes in the show’s third season. “[Lohan] will play a mean girl from high school who suddenly resurfaces in Betty’s life,” a rep told PEOPLE.

Lohan isn’t the only guest star on Ugly Betty’s finale: Naomi Campbell is stepping up to the plate and bringing along her sense of humor. “She is so willing to make fun of herself,” Michael Urie, who plays Marc on the show, told PEOPLE of the supermodel. “She really is awesome.”

Ugly Betty Moving to New York?

May 6, 2008

Ugly Betty is set in New York — and now the show may actually be filmed there.

An on-set source tells PEOPLE that the ABC comedy will pack up and move east. “They are moving production of the show to New York City because it will be cheaper,” the source says. “The only cast member that may be in question if he’s moving or not is Eric Mabius.” Mabius plays Daniel Meade, the editor of the fictional fashion magazine, Mode. His assistant Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) lives with her family in Queens, N.Y.

But a rep for the show says nothing is certain. “No final decision has been made,” a rep for the studio says. “We are exploring options and incentives that make sense for the show and the business.”

Filming for Ugly Betty’s third season will begin in the Big Apple in July. Lindsay Lohan is set to star in five episodes that season. Her character will be introduced in the show’s season finale. “She’ll play a mean girl from high school who suddenly resurfaces in Betty’s life,” a rep for the show tells PEOPLE. –Abby Stern and Mary Margaret

Naomi Campbell ‘Willing to Make Fun of Herself’ on Ugly Betty

May 5, 2008

Naomi Campbell may be a supermodel and supermodels may be known as divas, but Campbell was anything but when she visited the set of Ugly Betty, according to one of her costars.

“She is so willing to make fun of herself,” said Michael Urie, who starred with Campbell during her guest appearance on the ABC show. “She really is awesome.”

At opening night of Palazzo’s Jersey Boys in Las Vegas, Urie admitted that he was skeptical about Campbell upon hearing of her involvement in the show — “because, you know, we’ve all heard about her,” he said — but found her to be a breath of fresh air from the beginning.

“She’s done so many interesting things in the past and she was as great as could be,” he said of the scenes where Campbell plays as an opposing softball player. “She was laughing the whole time.”

Naomi Campbell to Guest Star on Ugly Betty

April 24, 2008

Naomi Campbell is due to follow in Victoria Beckham’s stilettoed footsteps by doing a guest shot on Ugly Betty.

The British supermodel, 37, will portray herself in the second season finale, an ABC rep has confirmed to PEOPLE.

Campbell had also been announced to guest star on last season’s Ugly Betty finale, only the writers’ strike put to bed that idea.

Actress Becki Newton, who plays the show’s receptionist Amanda Sommers, called the model’s upcoming appearance “exciting,” and said, “I’ve personally requested that I don’t stand next to her — because Amanda would not like to be seen with such a tall, pretty person.”

Campbell also has somewhat of a reputation for being tempestuous. Earlier this month she was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer after police were called to a disturbance at London’s Heathrow Airport. – Caris Davis and Mary Margaret

Ana Ortiz Talks About Filming Love Scenes on Betty

April 15, 2008

Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz wed musician Noah Lebnezon just last June, but she already has a new man in her life. On screen, that is.

Ortiz’s character Hilda, who had a rough time after losing her son Justin’s father, is due for some loving this season thanks to hottie Eddie Cibrian, the dimpled cutie recently seen on Samantha Who? and Dirty Sexy Money.

“We’ve only just met [on the show] and I yelled at him,” Ortiz tells PEOPLE, at a party at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel celebrating her cover of Latina magazine.

But there’s only a thin line between love and hate, it seems. So, just how steamy will it get? Ortiz laughs and says, “Well, I don’t know! I don’t know. I’m getting hot!”

And she’s not the only one! “It’s Eddie Cibrian so all of a sudden everybody in the crew is on the set, and I’m like, ‘Really, you guys? Really?’ All the girls are like, ‘I just left something here.’ All the gay guys are like, ‘I need to move a chair.’ It’s hysterical!”

As fun as it may be to film a love scene with an attractive costar, Ortiz had to prepare her hubby for what’s coming. “The most difficult thing about this part of the business for me anyway is telling my husband I’m getting down, and it’s Eddie Cibrian,” she says. “There’s no way for me to be like, ‘This sucks, I hate it!’ It is really uncomfortable and we’re both married, but the thing is like, hello, it’s not hard! Let me put it to you like that.” –Jenny Sundel

With drama aplenty—and an equal dose of self-parody—the Spice Girl seemed comfortable squaring off against the pros with her catchphrase of the night: “That’s major!” But we want to know how you’d rate her performance? —Brian Orloff
